Transilluminators & LED modules

All INTAS imagers for gel documentation, chemiluminescence and fluorescence can be supplemented with a transilluminator. We offer transilluminators for blue/green or UV excitation as well as for white light. The transilluminator can either be controlled by the image software or separately.

The blue/green transilluminator

The blue/green transilluminator is characterized by its special light excitation based on new, powerful LEDs. Compared to conventional UV tubes, these LED modules are significantly more energy-efficient, but are ideally suited for the excitation of ethidium bromide and alternative dyes (such as HDGreen Plus). Protect yourself and your samples with the new blue/green technology. Further specifications of the blue/green transilluminator are:

The UV transilluminator

Our UV transilluminators are characterized by their large filter surface. Samples up to a size of 21 x 26 cm can be excited homogeneously. The system also impresses with its robust design and the UV privacy screen set in metal. This can be swiveled through 180° so that you can individually adjust the privacy screen. The white light LED module

The compact LED white light module can be used for the visualization of Coomassie or silver stained samples. With a homogeneous illumination area of 16 x 22 cm and a thickness of less than 1 cm, it is very easy to hold and can be placed in the imaging system if required. The LED white light module is dimmable and has a powerful rechargeable battery. Other features include

Light source

The service life of UV tubes (approx. 3,000 h) and blue/green LEDs (approx. 50,000 h) is limited. However, you can order the corresponding light sources directly from us and easily install them in your Transilluminator yourself.

Questions and answers

The UV and blue/green transilluminators are suitable for the detection of DNA/RNA gels using ethidium bromide or ethidium bromide replacement dyes (e.g. HD Green Plus). You can use the white light transilluminators to detect VIS-stained gels (e.g. Coomassie or silver).

Both UV and blue/green transilluminators are suitable for the detection of ethidium bromide and ethidium bromide replacement dyes (e.g. HD Green Plus). The wavelengths used for excitation differ. The advantage of blue/green transilluminators is that they avoid harmful UV light, which protects you and your samples. Blue/green LEDs are also more durable than UV tubes.

The UV service life is approx. 3,000 hours.

The LED service life is approx. 50,000 hours.

The built-in white incident light is suitable for visible signals on blotting membranes (e.g. prestained markers in the Western blot). The incident light is not suitable for VIS-stained gels. For this you need the white light transilluminator.

DNA/RNA staining reagent HDGreen Plus

Ethidium bromide (EtBr) is a DNA/ RNA intercalator and is classified as mutagenic. We offer an alternative: HDGreen Plus is a non-mutagenic fluorescent dye for the detection of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) in agarose gels.

DNA bands stained with HDGreen Plus fluoresce when excited under UV and blue LED light. HDGreen Plus impresses with its high performance and can therefore be used sparingly.
